In celebration of Vasanta Navarātri (Skt. navarātra), Tripurā Tallikā is pleased to offer our latest contribution to the international Śrīvidyā community: a new edition, introduction, and translation of the Saṃvinmarīcicakra Stotra of the Padyavāhinī by Brian Campbell.

This incredibly rare, and hitherto, unpublished hymn to the goddess Tripurasundarī was composed by Śaṅkara (fl.c. 1300-1350), author of the Padyavāhinī, an important, and unpublished, ritual manual (paddhati) deeply aligned with the early Śrīvidyā tradition in South India.

The author, Śaṅkara, likely hails from the the lineage of Śivānandamuni, the author of the foundational Ṛjuvimarśinī commentary on the Nityāṣoḍaśikārṇavatantra (the principal tantra of the Śrīvidyā tradition) as well as the Saubhāgyahṛdayastotra, amongst many other commentaries and original compositions. In the Padyavāhinī, Śaṅkara shines an adept practitioner of multiple Kaula lineages as he integrates the Mahārtha (Kālīkrama), Anuttara Trika, Śrīvidyā, and Ṣaḍanvayaśāmbhava traditions into a single practice.
