Tripurā Tallikā is pleased to announce our latest open-access publication and art project: Khaḍgamālā Devīs of Devipuram. This work documents and illustrates the unique maṇḍala of over 100 deities enshrined along the nine enclosures (āvaraṇas) of the sacred Sahasrākṣī Meru Temple at Devipuram, near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Constructed between 1988 and 1994 under the guidance of Devipuram's founder, Śrī Amṛtānandanātha Sarasvatī (Dr. N. Prahlada Sastry, 1934–2016), the Sahasrākṣī Meru Temple is the world's only three-dimensional Śrīcakra built at an architectural scale that allows practitioners to physically circumambulate each level. While traditional texts typically describe the Devīs of each āvaraṇa as sharing a single uniform appearance, Guruji Amṛtānandanātha departed from this convention. Guided by interior revelations from the Goddess Hlādinī and working alongside sculptor Śrī Gopālāchāri, Guruji assigned each individual goddess her own distinct attributes, weapons (āyudhas), postures, colors, and seats. In addition, their physical layout reflects the unique architecture of the Meru Temple, placing these sacred forms into spatial relationships that offer new dimensions of contemplation beyond linear enumeration.

Begun in 2020, this publication is the result of six years of research and artistic documentation. Each sculpture in the temple was surveyed and cross-referenced with early archival installation photographs. Working in collaboration with Balinese artist Dewa Parta of the Dopers Project, each Devī has been cleanly rendered in a standardized visual format that preserves her specific iconographical features while maintaining visual unity across each enclosure. For every goddess, the publication provides an original illustration, a photograph of the temple mūrti, an iconographic breakdown (detailing heads, hands, posture, held attributes, and seat), her architectural placement within the Meru, and her mantra.

Alongside the visual documentation, the introductory section brings together archival excerpts and Guruji's reflections on the Khaḍgamālā and the Śrīcakra, offering insight into his perspective on moving from linear recitation to a holistic contemplation of the maṇḍala.
